Hello!

Welcome! This is my space to ramble about books, travel, tea and everything in between.

The Peak District

The Peak District

Somewhere I totally fell in love with last year was the Peak District, not only does it host the magnificent Chatsworth but also some of the most glorious landscapes. A (long) trek over Kinder Scout will only firm up that belief.

We walked the Trespasser's Way, famous for it's historical relevance in giving us the Right to Roam. It was a very successful act of civil disobedience. And hurrah for them because it means we now get to walk across some of the most gorgeous countryside.

Most walks on Kinder Scout are around the four/five hour mark I believe, (we were walking for seven) so be sensible, take your lunch and plenty of water, suncream etc and wear proper boots. Proper hard core walking boots. There are waterfalls and streams to be seen and enjoyed. We trekked up to the big waterfall as it seemed like rather a nice spot to eat our sandwiches and we weren't alone.

Another lovely spot in the Peaks is Castleton. It's an amazing village lying in the lee of Mam Tor, which basically means at the bottom of two (massive) hills. It has show caves, many an ice cream shop and beautiful cottages.

We were also lucky enough to stay in the loveliest of places, The Gameskeeper Cottage in Little Hayfield. Its destination, amongst the hills means you can walk from the front door all over Kinder Scout. Ideal, if you are there for the walking like we were.

We stopped off in Glossop for supplies (we were there for Mum's birthday so bubbles had to be in endless supply) and spent the first afternoon wandering around enjoying our new home for the next few days.

As we head into Spring, I thought it would be a good idea to share this picturesque part of the country just in case anyone is in need of some inspiration for a long weekend. There are lots of airbnbs around and if you love the great outdoors then it's truly worth a visit. Hoping to go back again soon... see you on the hills!
